Summervilles McCollum Top QB At Georgia Nike Camp

Summerville (SC) Everyone in the country has heard the legend of all-american receiver
A.J. Green, but few talk or think about the man on the other end of Green's passes - that
is until this past weekend when Greenwave quarterback Reid McCollum attended the Elite 11
Camp and Nike Football Camp in Georgia and left them talking.
McCollum, a 6-4, 205lbs right hander, performed well at the Elite 11 Camp and several
of the staff members about his accuracy in the drills.
"I thought I had a good camp," said McCollum, "but there were at least
90 quarterbacks there and I just didn't get the reps in that I got at the Nike Camp."
At the Nike Camp, McCollum did very well, demonstrating good explosion from under
center to his drops, very good mechanics, a strong arm in his passes, and very good
accuracy. He did so well, in fact, that he was selected the Camp's top quarterback.
"There were some great receivers there and they made some good catches, but I
think I was on and had a really good camp," said McCollum. "My passes seemed to
all be on target and enabled me to have a good day."
McCollum, who completed almost 60 percent of his passes and threw for close to 3,000
yards and 25 touchdowns in 2006, has plans to be busy this Summer. He says he will be
travelling to camp at Tennessee, Virginia, Virginia Tech, Georgia, South Carolina, North
Carolina, and Duke.
"Virginia seems to be really interested right now," said McCollum, "and
hopefully, after this past weekend, I'll get some more interest from South Carolina and
the other schools."
While McCollum states he has no favorites, he did say he'd really like to get offers
from South Carolina and Wake Forest.
As far as preparation for the 2007 season, McCollum plans to continue to work on his
passing fundamentals with his private instruction coach, and work on improving his
quickness and speed.
