In this edition of our Palmetto Preps' Charleston area coverage, recruiting editor Lee Wardlaw breaks down an exciting, early Oceanside Collegiate Academy quarterback to watch and talks about the recruitment of athlete Jaiden Kelly-Murray, a two-way star for Class AAAAA (5A) powerhouse Summerville, whose stock continues to rise amid an impressive sophomore campaign with the undefeated, 12-0 Green Wave.
Aidan Manavian is a 5-foot-11, 185-pound Class of 2027 sophomore phenom quarterback of Oceanside Collegiate Academy in Mount Pleasant, SC. He completed 146 of 225 passes (65%) for 2,063 yards, 23 touchdowns, and four interceptions in nine appearances under Lowcountry Friday Night Lights in 2024.
Manavian has tendered offers from Central Michigan, Georgia Southern, Kent State, and Miami (Ohio) and interest from Eastern Michigan, South Florida, Syracuse, Wake Forest, and Western Michigan.
Manavian maneuvers well but doesn't rush into decisions. He puts incredible arc on his throws an has a high release point. Manavian has a commanding presence in the pocket, staying measured and poised.
If he dosen't find an an open receiver on a check-down or mid-range route, Manavian isn't afraid to step up in the pocket and run it himself. And he has speed, too.
Manavian has good arm strength, throwing form, mechanics, and footwork. He operated the read-pass option and spread offense with exciting energy, managing the Landsharks' attack with speed, precision and intelligence.
Jaiden Kelly-Murray is a 5-foot-10, 180-pound athlete starring for undefeated, 12-0 AAAAA (5A) powerhouse Summerville High School. And the talents of electric, speedy, game-breaking wide receiver and safety have not gone unnoticed by major Division 1 and Power Four coaches across the United States during his standout sophomore season under Lowcountry Friday Night Lights.
Kelly-Murray has already long been on the radar of big-time programs, tendering offers from Arkansas and Alabama-Birmingham the summer after eighth grade season in 2023. He continued to gain recognition when East Carolina, Miami of Ohio, and Virginia Tech granted offers this summer.
Kelly-Murray’s 12-0 Green Wave are still in the hunt for the state championship as they prepare for a big-ticket state semifinal against 4-star South Carolina defensive end commit Anthony Addison and Sumter on Friday. He has 117 yards and one touchdown in playoff victories over Fort Dorchester and Ridge View.
Kelly-Murray was highly active on Summerville's offense during the regular season. He recorded 885 yards on 61 catches, hauling in nine touchdowns on 14.5 yards per reception. He was also a ballhawk on the defense. Kelly-Murray registered two interceptions, returning one to the house for a pick-six.
His stock had only continued to rise in recent weeks. Coastal Carolina granted him on Oct. 5.
Kelly-Murray’s ‘buzz’ continued to grow when he made the short trip to Atlanta to check in with Georgia Tech coaches and watch the trending 7-5 (5-3, ACC) Yellow Jackets shock No. 6 Miami on Nov. 9.
Tech offered him during his unofficial. He also furthered his relationship with cornerbacks' coach Cory Peoples, whom Kelly-Murray shares a special bond with.
"My relationship with Coach Peoples is good, especially because he's from my area. The Yellow Jackets have a great atmosphere, and I feel like I could be a piece for their program," he said.
Kelly-Murray hasn't yet tendered an offer from Carolina, but he was in Columbia for an unofficial visit on Nov. 16. He saw the Gamecocks take down Missouri in a 34-30 thriller in front of an electric home environment at Williams-Brice Stadium.
Kelly-Murray got a better feel for the program and experienced USC's come-from-behind win over the Tigers. He has positive reviews about the Gamecocks.
“(Carolina) is most definitely a vibe,” he said.
But unlike Tech, USC is recruiting him as a wide receiver.
Part of the reason why is because wide receivers coach Mike Furrey was able to see what his abilities during the Green Wave’s game against Chapin. Furrey’s son, Stone, is a safety for the Eagles.
Kelly-Murray recorded 167 yards and three touchdowns at the position with the Gamecocks' assistant watching him.
He likes Furrey as a coach.
“I like how he coaches up his guys for sure, making them discipline and also teaching them step-by-step what to do, “ he said.
Kelly-Murray was also a Clemson visitor when the Tigers hosted Carolina for the Palmetto Bowl on Saturday.
Kelly-Murray has a strong build similar to a slot receiver or running back. He takes good angles on the ball as a defensive back and plays well in contested coverage. Kelly-Murray is twitchy and runs short and mid-range routes with precision. He does the same on deep routes and is a home-run threat.
He can also extend his body and go airborne to make mid-range and deep catches in traffic.
Kelly-Murray's physical, speedy running is on display when he takes direct snaps and lines up at running back. It also allows him to pick up yards after the catch, where he bounces off defenders like a pinball.
