Manning's Aaron Smith turning heads

One of the top performers at the Elite Position Training Skills Showcase recently was Manning's Aaron Smith, who impressed with his physique as well as his talent on the field.

"I feel like I did pretty good when I went out there. I won pretty much all my one-on-one matchups," Smith told PalmettoPreps.com.

Smith's performance was so strong that he earned an offer that night; others have seemed to pick up interest since then as well. He broke down where things are with several possible suitors.

"I did receive an offer from Alabama A&M. Erskine is talking to me a lot. South Carolina State, they're still saying I'm under evaluation. The DB coach likes me and came by my spring practice last week.North Greenville, they really like me but want me to come down to camp over the summer. Charleston Southern came by the school and wants me to go to camp, I may go to that one. Georgia Southern's showing a lot of interest."

With Smith's body type and skill set, he would be more than capable of playing receiver or linebacker at the next level. His preference is receiver, but he says he's open to playing on defense and does enjoy the position. Programs seem to be recruiting him at both spots.

He explained: "Wofford's talking to me as an outside linebacker. When it's time for one-on-ones at camp, they want to see me at receiver as well. Alabama A&M did offer me for receiver and outside linebacker. Coastal wants me to come to camp as outside linebacker too."

The Palmetto State product is looking to ultimately announcing a college choice on Christmas Day in 2019.

"The most important thing when I'm making a decision, first I'm trying to see if they have my major in sports management or mechanical engineering. I've still got to decide what I want to do. I want to see if they have my fraternity, because I want to pledge. I want to see that the colleges not only want to promote me as a football player, but as a man and take me to the next level.

As a junior, Smith tallied 37 catches for 570 yards and 4 touchdowns. He'll play both ways this season for Manning.
