Danny Lewis will be formally introduced on Friday as Heathwood Hall's new head football coach, the school announced this week.
A Lexington native, Lewis played college football at Charleston Southern and has had a previous stint at Heathwood. He served as the program's Strength and Conditioning coach as well as an assistant football coach from 1996-1998.
Lewis has also coached college football at Newberry, Benedict, USC, The Citadel, Middle Tennessee State, and South Carolina State. He replaces Marcus Lattimore at Heathwood; Lattimore returned to his alma mater this year to serve in an off-field capacity with the Gamecock football program.
"Danny has many years of coaching experience in South Carolina, and he also is familiar with Heathwood football having worked under John Daye in our program in the past," athletics director Jeff Whalen said in a school release. "Danny brings a wealth of knowledge to our program that will benefit our student athletes on the field, but also has the experience and background to help our athletes move onto the collegiate level as student athletes.”
