Anderson (South Carolina) T.L. Hanna's Jay Lagroon is capable of playing either side of the ball in high school, but will likely land on defense at the next level.

"Right now they’re looking at me at linebacker," he said of college coach projections of his skill set " This year, I’ll be playing a little bit in the spread offense as the ‘X’ position."

Lagroon told PalmettoPreps.com that with Hanna in the midst of spring ball, he's trying to improve on a few aspects of his game.

"What I’m working on personally is just trying to maintain on the field, making sure I get my calls right, the blitzes, and making sure I stay focused," he said.

Alabama State, Appalachian State, Liberty, Wofford, and The Citadel have all offered Lagroon, with a couple other programs still keeping up communication in an effort to draw visits.

"The schools sticking out right now are Wofford and Alabama State," said Lagroon.

The in-state program from Spartanburg has a few factors working to its advantage in pursuing Lagroon.

"I like the campus, the coaching staff, and the teammates. When I went down there, the team was pretty legit," he said.

Alabama State has also captured the 6-foot-3, 190-pounder's attention.

"It’s an all-black college. I thought that was pretty cool to be around my culture. The coach that recruits me, he went to Westside (in Anderson)."

Lagroon hopes to finalize a decision at some point during the month of August.
