Jordan "Jojo" Crim, a 6-foot-1, 170-pound cornerback of Camden High School, is a Midlands-based athlete that has been blowing up on the recruiting trail of late.
Arkansas State, Charleston Southern, Connecticut, Cornell, Dartmouth, Duke, Indiana, James Madison, Liberty, Memphis, Miami (Ohio), Old Dominion, Tulane, UCF, and Yale have all joined the race for the services of the athlete since just Feb. 17, but on Feb. 28, one standout Atlantic Coast Conference school with a special coaching connection to the Crim Palmetto State entered the race for him: Georgia Tech.
The Camden star heard of the Yellow Jackets' offer from defensive backs coach Cory Peoples, who has ties to the Palmetto State. Peoples is an alum of Bishopville High School and the University of South Carolina.
After hearing from Tech, it didn't take long for the Bulldogs' star pass-defender to get down to Atlanta, Crim making the journey from the Midlands to Atlanta on March 30 to check out the Yellow Jackets facilities, watch the team practice, and learn more about all the program has to offer.
“It was great. I got to watch a live practice, sit through meetings, and see the campus. I got more of a feel for what it’s like around campus. Got the chance to chat with Brent Key, and all of the staff are great guys and coaches. Great energy and hospitality from everyone. A great day to maximize the opportunity to learn about the things they do as a football program at Georgia Tech,” he said.
Crim has also tendered offers from Charlotte, Appalachian State, Georgia Southern, Akron, South Florida, Georgia State, Jacksonville State, East Carolina, The Citadel, and Coastal Carolina.
After visiting Tech, Crim has made his way around the to visit other schools, including Duke and N.C. State on April 2, and South Carolina on April 4, the Bulldogs' star returning to the Midlands to catch up with defensive back coach Torrian Gray and the Gamecocks on April 4.
Follow along with Palmetto Preps below to learn more about Crim as a player:
The two-time, back-to-back All-State selection played a pivotal role in the Bulldogs' football operation last season, recording 92 tackles, five tackles for loss, one sack, five interceptions, and 16 pass break-up's on the way to an 11-4 finish and appearance in the state championship game, where Camden just fell short of winning it all in a 49-48, wild west style shootout against state power Daniel.
Crim also saw playing time at wide receiver, where he was speedy, physical, and hard to tackle, the athlete hauling in 206 yards on just 10 receptions, recording six total touchdowns. If 20.6 yards per catch wasn't enough, Crim returned kickoff for a score on the special teams and even blocked a punt.
FILM ANALYSIS: "Moves around the field with ease. Motions feel effortless, fluid, and smooth. Good peripheral vision. Physical tackler and anticipates well in space. Fun and easy player to watch."
ROLLING BACK THE TAPE:
(0:59-1:01) Uses arms like barriers to push receiver to the sideline, demonstrating good physicality. Follows through with the play.
(1:23-1:29) Good footwork. Shakes off his man and finds running back in space, finishing with physical tackle, driving his feet and dragging his opponent to the sideline.
(1:36-1:41) Playing hybrid position in tight 4-3 set, recognizes play, showing great change of direction.
(1:52-1:59) The Camden star shows great change-of-direction to stymie the running back against a solid Hartsville Red Foxes' program.
(2:09-2:14) Crim displays, excellent, potential SEC speed, providing touchdown-saving tackle for the Bulldogs.
(2:31-2:37) Fluid footwork, side-to-side motion, following receiver to sideline, allowing defense to settle in for a loss of gain.
(3:11-3:17) Takes great angle on ball, making exciting, physical stop.
TRIPLE THREAT ATHLETE: "Also provides fireworks not just on the defense, but at kickoff returner, wide receiver at program that nearly won state championship in hard-knocks 3A division of South Carolina High School Leauge. Crim is being recruited as a defensive back, but recruiters should take note with this statistic: 20.6 yards per catch on just 10 receptions is a highly impactful output from the Bulldogs' star. The firepower Crim provides on the special teams for Camden should also not be taken lightly. If he continues improving his craft at this area of the game, this could help him find a way onto the playing field in college more easily."
But of course, what the Bulldogs' star can do on the defense is even more impressive.
Crim has a big camp and tackle season ahead of him. More Power 4 offers could be coming his way as he continues a strong trajectory at Camden."
