Jevon Edwards (Aiken, SC) is a 5-foot-9, 185-pound under-the-radar running back hailing from the South Aiken Thoroughbreds, a 4A Region-4 program in the South Carolina High School Leauge (SCHSL) that seeks to ride his talents to greatness under the Lowcountry Friday Night Lights of 2023.
While Edwards recorded 1,702 yards and 23 touchdowns on 214 carries in 2022 (8.1 yards per carry, 155 yards per game), he didn’t earn his first offer until June 16 from Coastal Carolina after a great camp performance in Conway.
Soon later, Edwards earned his second offer from Old Dominion after another outstanding camp performance in Norfolk, Virginia on June 20.
Jevon has great vision and can anticipate countermoves of defenders in real time. Edwards is timely and patient, waiting for the right time to make his move. When the Thoroughbreds' bell cow sees a hole open up, he quickly transforms into the second gear to speed away from defenders, running with physicality and force. Edwards is also agile and has the ability to make cuts and jukes.
Edwards carries the load out of several run formations from the backfield. He even presents a threat from the old-school option, where he can especially utilize his physical, hard-knocks running style, slamming into defenders with force.
His favorite calling card of all, though is the sweep.
The athlete that can also catch passes out of the backfield is a rising prospect on the local level, and he should be able to earn additional Group of Five and FCS offers if he continues to work hard.
Edwards' athletic abilities and hardworking mentality are paying major dividends already. The young rising junior earned All-State honors in 2022 and raked in All-Region honors as both a freshman and sophomore.
