Every year, SCVarsity.com begins narrowing down our list of athletes to a workable

number that we can mold into a Top 100 Players list for the state. And each year, one
position seems to have more depth than others, but the there is always a lot of talent to
go around and there are always players that could be listed on this list if there were
more slots available. Here's a look at our Pre-Evaluation Period-Wide Receivers.
Right now, we try to narrow down the list to 10 to 15 players at each position and work
our way from there. These players are here because of something we've seen during their
junior year. By the time that we gain more information based on in-person and film
evaluations, these will more than likely change and there will usually be more [players in
the rankings from one position than the other.
As we begin the adventurous journey of evaluating players from our great state, these
are the players that we feel are the elite at their position. I will tell you right now
that the WR position is not nearly as deep as it usually is, but the top few at this
position are very good.
Pre-Evaluation Period Top Wide Receivers
1. Mark Barnes, Richland Northeast High School - Not only is Barnes
the top prospect at this position, he could very well be the top safety prospect as well,
depending on which school he decides on. Has all of the tools and should be no less than a
four star - possibly five - when the Rivals.com rankings come out. (Offers: South

2. Junior Hemingway, Conway High School - Like Barnes, this is a young
man that could end up playing safety at the next level. He already has an impressive list
of offers (Michigan, Ohio State, Florida State, Clemson, South Carolina, Duke, and
Maryland. Highlight

3. Xavier Dye, Greenwood High School - A definite Top Fifteen player
in the state, Dye will probably get less attention because of his early committment to
Clemson. Had 37 receptions for 614 yards and four touchdowns in 2005.
4. Dontrell Inman, Batesburg-Leesivlle High School - Is another player
that could be recruited on either side of the ball. Had 31 receptions for 400 yards and
four touchdowns on offense and 69 tackles and six interceptions on defense. (Offers:

5. Cameron Ford, T.L. Hanna High School - Very under rated by most
sources. Former quarterback from Palmetto HS, tranferred to Hanna. He's a big receiver
(6-4,215) and had 38 receptions for 822 yards as a junior. (Offers: VaTech, NC State,
Vanderbilt, and North Carolina.
6. Jakar Hamilton, Strom Thurmond High School - One of the state's
most under rated players. , Had 18 receptions for 305 yards and six scores. Had to play
some RB for Coach Lee Sawyer's team due to injuries in the line up and rushed for 586
yards and 14 touchdowns
7. Brandon Bostic, West Florence High School - An off the radar
player, Bostic is a 6-3, 205lbs reciever who had 39 catches for 664 yards and 7 TDs
in 2005. Big play ability.
8. Chleb Ravenell, Wando High School - (6-1,175) Another sleeper,
Ravenell had 35 catches for 659 yards and four touchdowns in a ground-oriented offense. He
also had 216 yards in return yards.
Right now, I think the top five listed here are definite Top Twenty SCVarsity.com
players. The top seven should all be inside the Top Twenty-Five for SCV. As film comes in
and media days pass, we will continue our evaluations and our lists may be altered.
Currently we have about forty Wide Receivers from this class listed, but not all have been
evaluated.
