(6-0,170) led the Panthers to the State AA Title this past season and displayed poise and
leadership during the playoff run. He finished the 2005 season with 1,312 yards passing
for 12 touchdowns and 411 yards rushing for 7 more scores. Garrett spoke to SCVarsity.com
about his recruiting and his plans for the Spring.
"This was a great season for us," said Jones, who led the Panthers to an
entire road-winning streak through the playoffs. "I don't think many people expected
us to pull off what we did - beating two unbeaten teams on the road and then actually
beating Cheraw in the Championship, but we believed."
Jones is currently on the SCVarsity.com Top 25 Players list and for good reason. He's a
Class AA All-State player, and was Class AA All Area Quarterback and Punter while leading
the Panthers to the title win.
Jones also attended the US Army All-American Combine this past Fall, and will be
attending the Nike Camp at Clemson.
"Right now, the only schools that have really showed an interest have been South
Carolina and Coastal Carolina," said Jones. "I really like Coastal. I went down
there for a game last season and really liked the atmosphere, the campus -
everything."
Jones will be attending the University of South Carolina's Junior Day this coming
weekend, and may be going to NC State in the next couple of weeks.
"The NC State thing is not a definite, yet," said Jones.
The 6-0 signal caller also has plans to prepare for next season. "We just finished
basketball this past Saturday - getting knocked out of the playoffs. I'll take a couple of
days off and start training for football on Wednesday. I'm going up for the Clemson Nike
Camp and the combine at Duke, so I want to be ready for those things."
The two sport star would love to be playing at a DI school when he gets to the next
level, but he's not stingy about that."
"I just want to be able to play football and get an education," said Jones.
"I'm not counting any schools out just because their not DI."
In addition to Coastal Carolina, Jones said he has also looked into Valdosta State in
Georgia.
Stay tuned to SCVarsity.com as we follow one of our top
quarterbacks through his recruiting process and his senior football season.
