2007 Profile: South Aiken OL Wes Baldwin

Aiken (SC) South Aiken high school became a recruiting hotbed of sorts last year

for the first time in years as recruiters flocked around from various Southeastern
programs to woo Florida State signee Dekoda Watson and Georgia Tech signee Ben Anderson.
Those visits seem to have some positive impact on 2007 as another South Aiken player has
caught the interest of colleges in right tackle Wes Baldwin.
At 6'4" and 270 pounds, Wes is a big body for the Thoroughbreds. He sports a 410
pound squat and runs the fourty in 5.1. Wes has started for South Aiken since he was a
freshman and was an all-area and all-region selection in 2006. He received ample looks
last spring and fall as recruiters would often watch him line up and have to block the
college bound Watson in practice.
This past winter Wes made junior day visits to Virginia Tech, Tennesee, and South
Carolina. This summer Wes will also be making the summer camp circuit to make up for a
slow spring. He had to turn down both Nike and Adidas combine offers due to a misdiagnosed
broken hand from last year that is currently set in a cast.
He will attend camps at Virginia Tech, South Carolina, Georgia, and Middle Tennessee
over the summer.
He has received interest from the schools above as well as Vanderbilt, Virginia,
Central Florida, Florida State, Syracuse, NC State, and Furman. Wes was rated fifth on the
SCVarsity pre-evaluation for offensive linemen in South Carolina in 2006.
Stay tuned to SCVarsity.com as we follow one of our top players
through his recruiting process and his senior football season.
